High Watt Electrocutions
Night Songs
(Introspection Records)

High Watt Electrocutions

Fans of Black Sabbath, Hawkwind, and acid should dig this. Night Songs is pure, 100 per cent uncut psychedelia. A seven year project of HWE's lone member, Ryan Settee, there's nothing immediate about this album. These long, slow songs require a dedicated listener, but it's a very satisfying ride if you can survive it. Sonic Maelstrom is an absolutely evil opener. Like an army of darkness, its steady march and freaky inaudible vocals will chill you to the bone. Mind-bending tracks such as Dragged into the Vortex and The Thief is Caught will scare you just as shitless, but for every wicked song there is an angelic one. Into the Abyss is Floyd-like, tripping along like a stoned angel, and Erosion frolics happily in the meadow. Warning: Operating any sort of machinery whilst listening to Night Songs may cause serious bodily harm.
