Element Sircus gets set to celebrate summer solstice
Don Beat

Join the Sircus"Please remind people that they are encouraged to come to the Sircus in costume because the idea is to allow you to be someone else for that solstice night," says Element Sircus co-organizer Dave Fort - freshly back from touring with Absent Sound.

"It is participatory. Each and every one who attends are vital," Fort says. "You are the Sircus."

I've championed past events here fer U streetbeaters for years, so it's no secret that I'm a big fan of the consistently entertaining
and thought-provoking Element Sircus series of psychedelic concerts put on by the E-core of behind-the-scenes E-Sircus organizers, which consists of the people from Absent Sound and Mahogany Frog, Kristen Andrews from Ragpickers Antifashion Emporium, Paulette LaFortune from Sweet Spot Productions and a whole bunch more helpful and insightful festival fans.

Each multi-faceted show is a wonderful, cataclysmic celebration of local and out-of-town music and performances, with experimentation and cosmic-charged happenings including sound and light shows, fire wizardry, marching bands, spoken-word performances and other related post-20th century psychedelic perplexity: A true non-commercial treat in these seen-it-all-before times.

The next Element Sircus - Summer Solstice 2008 - has a strong focus on electronic artists (check entertainment listings) and it kix early at Old Market Square on June 21. Fort is quick to remind that the "grounds open at 4 p.m." Check www.myspace.com/elementsircus for more
info.

"What do I know about Element Sircus?" quizzes Vav Jungle lead vocalist/keyboard whiz Eve (ex-Just Ducky, aka DJ Beekeeni) with a rhetorical buzz smirk. "Nothing. Seriously. They know me through the scene. I think it's because of when I used to play at the Blue Note. I think they think I'm a performance artist. They just asked Vav Jungle to play. It was as simple as that, so I accepted.

"I'm working on new music right now, a follow-up to Pap Rock, which is as yet untitled," Eve says about the current Vav Jungle project. "I've been using a 1972 Electone organ. I have an obsession with organs as you know." Hit Vav Jungle on MySpace for more.

As far as V-Jungle's E-Sircus performance, Eve says Sircus attendees will experience true electronic bliss with a brand new organized temperament influenced by electronic pioneers such as heavy organist Virgil Fox, plus Floyd Kramer and Klaus Wunderlich. It's the type of electronic eclectomix that got Vav invited to perform at the upcoming OFF Festival in Quebec City on July 11, "Celebrating the 400th Anniversary of Quebec City."

"I just got back to my old roots: beats, poppity, new wave, Latin with rock synthesizer. There of course will be lots of dance, and I expect everybody to psyche out on psychedelic dance music," Eve says.

"I've had a lot of people make assumptions about what I do. All the music is on iTunes, and I'm selling Pap Rock at the show. Just come and see. I'd rather people just have a good time. We're lucky here. Let's just make the city better. Then we can all be happy."
