Feeling nostalgic?
This week's web round-up is all about mixtapes, music videos and '80s covers
Anthony Augustine

Cassette from My Ex
www.cassettefrommyex.com - Sure, there's online music-sharing services such as Muxtape and iTunes to help you create custom playlists, but nothing can really replace the blood, sweat and tears that go into making a mixtape for your sweetheart. Cassette from my Ex is an online project that helps "share the stories and the soundtrack to your earliest loves." Although you can't download the tracks included on the mix, you can stream the music through your browser.

25 New Music Video Classics
tinyurl.com/6dg9wg - Back when MTV first launched in 1981, the network helped break new artists and was dedicated to music videos. Fast forward to 2008, and the station has totally shifted its focus to reality TV, only playing videos on Total Request Live. Americans can still view videos on Fuse, VH1, BET and MTV2, but Canadians can only view some of those channels if they are running a grey market satellite, and although MuchMusic still plays its fair share of videos, outdated CRTC rules continue to hold back the network. This is a subjective list by Michel Gondry, the celebrated French-born director of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind as well as of videos for Björk and The White Stripes, and it's a good place to start if you're feeling a bit nostalgic. The site links to all the videos via YouTube.

Rewind
www.buffetlibre.net - Judging by the sharp spike in '80s fashion trends - Hypercolor T-shirts, acid wash jeans, bold neon prints and the never-ending parade of retro sneaker designs - the decade of excess is back in a big way. If you need some new music to go with your everything-old-is-new-again outfits, Buffet Libre has launched a new covers project called Rewind that features underground artists tackling tunes by some of the biggest names from the '80s. With indie acts such as We are Soldiers, Culture Project and Winnipeg expat vitaminsforyou all contributing gems from artists such as Prince, N.W.A., The Police and Dire Straits, there is no reason why you can't find a few tracks worth keeping. All the MP3s are available for free download and the site also includes YouTube links to the original videos for the songs covered.

Quick Hits

Stall Wall Poetry
www.stallwallpoetry.com - Although anonymous blogging on the Internet has taken a chunk out of random washroom wall scribblings' market share, there are still people who like to do things the traditional way.

Video of the Week : Louis XIV - Stalker (Web Video)
tinyurl.com/5qesbu - Provocative new (web only) video from San Diego rockers Louis XIV.

133 T-Shirt blogs
tinyurl.com/4he57d - If you are as obsessed with T-shirts as you are music, this list should keep you busy for a while.
