To the Max
Out-of-control jerk still makes for interesting reading
Anthony Augustine
Tucker Max — www.tuckermax.com
— Although he has a book of his escapades coming out
in 2006, accomplished binge drinker and out-of-control womanizer
Tucker Max got his start as a writer on the web. While he
may be a complete asshole, somehow you always want to find
out how his stories end. Max’s blog is also the type
of guilty pleasure you try to hide from people — much
like the embarrassing songs on your digital music player.
Borf— flickr.com/photos/tags/borf/
— After months of quiet work at night covering Washington
with messages, the elusive Borf has been caught and his identity
revealed. An 18-year-old art student was arrested after being
apprehended painting one of his infamous pieces. This Flickr
photo set shows some of the young artist’s pieces as
documented by fans of his socially aware style. Even if you
believe he needs to be punished for putting his work in public
places without permission, you have to admire this guy’s
uncanny ability to make an impact with such simple characters
and slogans.
Tip the Pizza Guy — www.tipthepizzaguy.com
— This comprehensive guide to tipping the pizza man
has some handy information to ensure you keep your delivery
guy happy. It even has an online tip calculator if your Grade
5 math skills aren’t up to snuff.
Mash-Ups Galore — mashups.blogspot.com
— This blog may not be updated every week, but
you will find some interesting tracks, such the recently uploaded
Lust Train that mashes Iggy Pop, Rolling Stones, Cream and
Radiohead. Another track, Shake Your Grapes, combines Marvin
Gaye and Black Grape. Dig back a bit and you’ll find
an hour-long mix from CCC, along with a bunch of other skilfully
prepared mash-up singles.
My Boring-Ass Life — silentbobspeaks.com
— A group of dedicated fans is attempting to lobby the Rock
& Roll Hall of Fame in an attempt to have seminal German electronic
group Kraftwerk nominated for induction. Kraftwerk may have been
instrumental in shaping modern music, but getting the band in
the hall will be tough work.
Burning Man — www.burningman.com
— If you didn’t get enough intense weather and
badly played bongos at the Winnipeg Folk Festival campground,
you can shell out over $200 US to take part in the annual
Burning Man Festival in Nevada. While the freewheeling gathering
aims to be participant driven, the high gate cost has lead
many to believe the fascinating social experiment has taken
a different direction.
Morgan Spurlock’s Blog —
blogs.indiewire.com/morganspurlock/
— Morgan Spurlock’s blog may be a tool to battle
the increasing attention that seems to be placed on his work,
but it is probably also a handy promotion tool for his show
on FX and his new book. Spurlock may not be as criticized
as Michael Moore, but since the release of his film he has
had to answer to a chorus of critics who have tried to poke
holes in his arguments and question his integrity.
