Skylab2000 — skylab2000.com
— Dennis Barton (aka Skylab2000) will make his first
local appearance at the recently announced Serendipity 2,
and he should be a perfect fit for the show under the stars
at the Grand Beach Entertainment Centre. Over one million
of his tracks were downloaded from the now-defunct MP3.com,
so Barton is no stranger to using the web to promote and distribute
his music. You can download over 20 tracks and remixes from
his site. Serendipity 2 (Aug. 27-28) will be the first electronic
music event to use the Grand Beach Entertainment Centre and
should be worth the drive up Highway 59.
Greg Gow— greggow.net
— Three-time DMC champ DJ Craze and live electronic
act Skylab2000 will headline Serendipity 2, but Toronto’s
Greg Gow is the performer not to miss. One of Canada’s
most respected techno DJs, Gow played a significant role in
helping build T-Dot’s techno community. Gow offers up
two recent radio mixes for download on his site.
One Free Minute — www.onefreeminute.net
— This fascinating exercise in anonymous free speech
would be a perfect installation for the annual Send + Receive
festival. One Free Minute is a mobile sculpture that is connected
to a 200-watt amplifier-and-speaker setup that can broadcast
pre-recorded or live messages over 150 feet away. You can
leave your own one-minute sound bite on their toll-free answering
service or call in live the next time the piece is being shown.
The Daily Rant — www.thedailyrant.co.uk
— If you can’t wait for the next gallery
appearance of the One Free Minute installation to tell other
people what you think, you can get anything off your chest
at The Daily Rant.

unique and twisted cartoon is the type of stuff that is perfect
for the web.
Mischke Madness — www.mischkemadness.com
— If your idea of talk radio extends beyond Charles
Adler and George Noory, you might want to spend some time
listening to St. Paul-based radio personality T.D. Mischke.
Covering a host of topics, including the day’s top headlines,
and taking calls from crazy listeners, Mischke is as unique
as it gets. The popular late-night host has been named the
best AM radio personality for the past eight years by readers
of City Pages, the online news and entertainment weekly.
Top 10 Web Fads — tinyurl.com/cpqqp
— From recent web fads like politically themed Jib Jab
to more retro entries like the annoying Hamsterdance, the
only thing that seems to be missing from this list is the
Icy Hot Stuntaz.
This Magazine Blog — blog.thismagazine.ca
— While there may not be many well-written blogs covering
Canadian politics, This Magazine’s blog does a good
job of trying to fill that void. Not strictly confined to
comments about politics, recent posts have covered open-source
beer, investigations into pay-for-play allegations in the
U.S. and Britain’s shoot-to-kill policy for suspected
suicide bombers.
