My MySpace is better than yours
Song parodies dorks who are obsessed with their online profiles

MySpace Mixdown — www.ourmedia.org/node/67729
— Using the backing instrumentals from Kelis’
smash hit Milkshake, this hilarious remix takes aim at obsessed
MySpace users who spend way too much time crafting witty profiles,
endlessly posting comments on other pages and thinking they’re
way cooler than everyone else on the massive social-networking
site.
Radiohead Remixes— tinyurl.com/b2qm8
— This unofficial batch of Radiohead remixes, mashups
and covers from hip hop producer Panzah Zandahz runs the gamut
from a brilliant computerized version of Creep to a mediocre
breakbeat-driven Everything in Its Wrong Place. While not
every reworking is a home run, there are enough good tracks
here to warrant a download or two.
Fight the Monster — www.fightthemonster.com
— Regina’s Fight the Monster has landed the coveted
opening slot for Propagandhi’s first local show in over
two years. The CD release for Potemkin City Limits will also
feature performances from members of the Peanuts & Corn
crew (Pip Skid, Gruf, John Smith and DJ Hunnicutt) and Wife.
Fight the Monster has been uploading tracks each month as
part of their 12 Months of Monster project, so you can hear
what the band is all about before the appearance on Dec. 16
at the Ramada Conference and Entertainment Centre. The cover
for October’s Fight the Monster EP was designed by former
Regina native and Propagandhi bassist Todd Kowalski.
The Triple Tofu Tower —
www.goodiebag.tv/video/ttt.htm
— This spoof is funny because the writer has managed
to boil vegan frustration down to a one-minute mock commercial,
but it’s also clever because he has things right on
so many levels. While satirizing vegetarians has typically
been left up to The Simpsons or Dilbert, Kirby Ferguson’s
faux ad has to be one of the best things I’ve recently
seen on the web.
Show & Sell — www.clarkhuot.com/477william/
— This collaborative project featuring custom-designed
fashion, art and accessories is being billed as a place to
shop for unique gifts, but it’s also an interesting
experiment in grassroots commerce. Located in The Barbershop
Gallery (which has been rotating shows every two weeks), Show
& Sell features punk-inspired clothes by Dumb Chauffeur;
one-of-a-kind T-shirt designs by Christian Procter (that are
silk-screened by hand while you wait); retro, airline-inspired
fashion from Edmond Huot and work from a bunch of other local
artists. The project runs Saturdays in December at 477 William
Ave., and it will be interesting to see how Winnipeggers react
to this unique concept.
Paris Hilton’s Pose —
parisfacial.ytmnd.com
— This montage of photos of Paris Hilton in the exact
same pose is both creepy and captivating. The sequence recently
had a room full of people at a party I was at totally mesmerized.
Make sure your speakers are cranked all the way up when you
view the site, and try to avoid looking into Hilton’s
eyes. Side effects of viewing include the need to go shopping.
Dharma Secrets — dharmasecrets.com
— A dedicated group of fan sites have been tracking
the ABC show Lost right from the first episodes of the popular
program. The latest site to launch isn’t just focused
on the organization that was conducting research on the island
(as the name implies) but actually covers all aspects of the
show.
