My Name is Earl — www.nbc.com/My_Name_Is_Earl/list.shtml
— Even when skateboarder Jason Lee was nailing kick flips
in the Spike Jonze-directed music video for Sonic Youth’s
100% or hamming it up in Blind Skateboards’ influential
short film Video Days, it was apparent he was going to move on
to bigger and better things. His latest project is the clever,
critically acclaimed sitcom My Name is Earl. The basic premise
finds Lee’s character discovering karma (while watching
the Carson Daly show) and attempting to reverse all the bad things
he has done over the years. Earl’s list is available from
this site. The program airs Tuesday nights, or you can check your
favorite torrent site for any episodes you might have missed.
Stop Ashlee— www.stopashlee.com
— Ashlee Simpson tried to do damage control after her botched
visit to Saturday Night Live by making another appearance on the
program. If you think she hasn’t atoned for past sins you
can still join the Stop Ashlee campaign.
Dr. Tom Cruise — drtomcruisemd.blogspot.com
— From the same writer who mocked-up the Ann Coulter site,
this faux-blog builds on Tom Cruise’s public bashing of
psychiatric medicine and Brooke Shields during an interview with
NBC’s Matt Lauer. The blog has been inactive for a few months,
but entries such as Tom Cruise on the Universal Efficacy of Vitamins
in Treating Every Medical Problem Known to Man make it worth checking
out.
Podcast Mixes — www.lelpalfrey.com/mixArchive.php
— With so many podcasts available, it’s sometimes
difficult to know where to start. Featuring a diverse selection
of electronic acts (Kraftwerk, Peaches) and old-school favourites
(Jackson 5, Kool and the Gang), these mixes are worth looking
into.
The Shadow Percussion Project —
tinyurl.com/7ojaz
— You have to give credit to this Minnesota-based high
school band for such an ambitious undertaking. Tackling material
from DJ Shadow’s highly influential debut, Entroducing,
these talented musicians deliver very good remakes of some of
Shadow’s most difficult material.
Team 9 Mp3s — www.team9.net/mp3s.htm
— Mashups may be getting played out, but some great tracks
are still worth downloading. Featured regularly on San Francisco’s
popular Sixx Mixx radio program produced by Party Ben, Team 9
has been busy cranking out shifty remixes for a couple of years.
Recently uploaded tracks include Juice Box by The Strokes (mashed
with the Blues Brothers’ Peter Gunn), Green Day’s
Wake Me up When September Ends (with The Eagles’ Lyin’
Eyes) and Queens of the Stone Age’s In My Head (combined
with The Beatles’ Eleanor Rigby). Over 20 tracks are available
for download.
Metric Blog — idealart.blogspot.com
— This insider’s look into the day-to-day grind of
an extensive North American tour doesn’t read like The Dirt
By Mötley Crüe or Henry Rollins’ Get in the Van,
but that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth visiting. Relaying
information from Metric’s current tour (which hits Winnipeg
Oct. 23), the guy who sells merch for the Toronto rockers gives
you a good sense of what it’s like to be part of a successful
road trip.
