Music Vs. Guns — www.music-versus-guns.org
— If you haven’t yet heard about the recent heavy-handed
crackdown by American law enforcement officials on Versus 2, an
outdoor drum & bass event in Utah, then Music Vs. Guns is
a good place to get some of the details. Although the site has
been established by the promoters of the event, it does offer
links to other sources of information, news clippings and downloads
of reports from local media outlets. Video of the SWAT-led shutdown
of the event is available on the Utah Indymedia site or can be
found with a quick Google search. In a strange coincidence, Miami
scratchmaster DJ Craze was the headliner at the at the ill-fated
Verses 2 as well as the recent Serendipity 2 event held at Grand
Beach.
Vitaminsforyou— blogs.meidia.ca/vfu/
— Virtually unknown when he first started his Vitaminsforyou
project in the late 1990s, former Winnipegger Bryce Kushnier has
made quite a name for himself playing heartfelt electronic pop
in Montreal’s vibrant music scene. Recently relocated to
Toronto, Kushnier performed at the inaugural Mutek Mexico this
spring and is also busy at work on a follow-up to his stellar
debut I’m Sorry Forever and For Always. Be sure to visit
his Myspace site to stream his reworking of Arcade Fire’s
No Cars Go and three other tracks from past releases.
Slashfood — www.slashfood.com
— If you watch more than an episode or two on Foodtv every
week, then you will probably want to add Slashfood to your daily
reading list. With everything from hurricane-friendly recipe ideas
to information on the hippest wines, Slashfood has quickly established
itself as a major player in the blog world.
Rockstar Inxs — rockstar.msn.com
— The blog world is buzzing with a conspiracy theory
that says Mig Ayesa has already been chosen as the new lead singer
of Inxs and that the whole Rockstar Inxs show is just an exercise
in raising the band’s profile. In any case, you can get
involved with the show through its fairly interactive site.
Rubber Johnny — www.rubberjohnny.tv
— The new project from acclaimed video director Chris
Cunningham is a short film/book called Rubber Johnny. Known for
his twisted video treatment for Aphex Twin’s Come to Daddy
track, Cunningham is once again working with Richard D. James,
who contributes music to the project. View a trailer for the short
film on the site.
Radiohead Blog — www.radiohead.com/deadairspace/
— Busy at work on a new album, Radiohead has launched its
own blog to chronicle the recording of the new disc. This is more
a collection of photos and quick notes about life in the studio
than a full-on Internet diary, so don’t expect any officially
leaked tracks from this notoriously secretive group.
Six Feet Under — www.hbo.com/sixfeetunder/
— While the strangely captivating yet utterly depressing
HBO drama Six Feet Under may be ending its run far too quickly,
the show’s website is still worth exploring. It features
a comprehensive, behind-the-scenes look at the show, as well as
episode guides, a gallery of Claire’s artwork and obituaries
of all the major cast members — that should tie up any loose
ends left by the final season.
