Steve-O Lower Primate:
Wildboyz co-host makes his rap single available on the web
Anthony Augustine

Steve-Owww.steveovideo.com — One of the craziest of the Jackass crew, Steve-O was responsible for many of the most outlandish stunts on the show. Although Johnny Knoxville seems to trying to distance himself from his Jackass days, Steve-O isn’t trying to change the persona he’s created. Even when he was on Blind Date he was tearing his shirt up, getting naked and squirting lemon juice in his eye. Currently hosting MTV’s ‘nature’ program, Wildboyz, with fellow hellraiser Chris Pontius, Steve-O is trying to make the jump to the big screen and launch a rap career. You can view a bunch of videos from upcoming projects and download his debut single, Hard As a Rock, on his home page.

Vegan Lunchboxveganlunchbox.blogspot.com — For every 1,000 blogs uploading the latest leaked Strokes track or posting about Sufjan Stevens’ next album, there are a few brilliant blogs with premises so simple you’ll kick yourself for not thinking of them first. Vegan Lunchbox is one such blog. Well executed, it’s a great introduction to the variety of food choices available to vegans. The site contains a great assortment of recipe ideas, even though they’re all for lunches.

Buddyhead’s Best & Worst of 2005www.buddyhead.com/music/bestof2005 — Buddyhead’s site was sporadically updated in 2005, so it’s surprising that this list is out so early in 2006. Drafting the assistance of Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme and pal Tom Apostolopoulos to tear apart the last year of music, Aaron North (last seen trashing amps and handling guitar duty for NIN) and Travis Keller are back at it. They may not spend as much time on the site as they have in the past, but they haven’t lost their edge. The Buddyhead crew takes some heavy-handed swipes at Weezer, Coheed & Cambria, The Dandy Warhols and Billy Corgan, and they praise releases from Depeche Mode, The New Pornographers, Elliot Smith and the Rolling Stones.

Clerks 2www.clerks2.com — Clerks was a landmark in independent filmmaking when it was released in 1994, so it’s hard to understand why writer and director Kevin Smith would want to revisit the past and jeopardize everything the classic has become. Smith has done a good job of bringing together the old cast, but he’ll still need the right storyline to pull this off. A quick trailer and video journal is available from the site.

Kidz Boptinyurl.com/7ovwt — Already on their ninth compilation, Kidz Bop tackles current hits in a way the Mini Pops could never understand. Download knockout versions of Beverly Hills (Weezer), Feel Good Inc. (Gorillaz) and Speed of Sound (Coldplay) from the forthcoming release, then track down the Kidz Bop version of Modest Mouse’s Float On — you’ll be glad you did.

NIN Sampleswww.nin.com/access/only — With a quick download and a half-decent computer you can be on your way to becoming the next (unofficial) member of NIN. Yes, Trent Reznor has made parts from the single Only available in both Garageband and Abelton Live formats. This is the second time the NIN frontman has made a track available for remix, but this is the first time he has released the material in a format compatible with both PCs and Apples.

Anthony Augustine is a freelance music and pop culture writer who spends way too much time in front of the computer. He also hosts a weekly two-hour electronic music program on CKUW 95.9 FM Got a site you think he should see? E-mail him at anthony.alloneword@gmail.com.
