DJ Oxide plans four different events to celebrate two-year Empire residency

O2 in the Basement — Two-Year Anniversary Partieswww.djladyhouse.com; www.urbnet.com/djoxide/; www.myspace.com/zsuzanna; www.judgejules.net — After two solid years of dishing out funky house and minimal techno in the basement of The Empire, resident DJs Oxide and Audio Angel (Suz) are celebrating with a busy month of special events. Kicking things off on March 17 is San Francisco’s DJ Ladyhouse. The following week will be the official Winnipeg release party for Oxide’s debut 12-inch on Blunted Funk Recordings. Popular London radio/club DJ Judge Jules will be in town for his first Winnipeg performance on March 29. And just two nights later it should be chaos in the basement, as every DJ who has played the club over the past two years has been invited to come down and spin. All shows will be at The Empire.

NBC Web Highlightswww.nbc.com/Video — The viewing habits of North Americans have shifted drastically over the past few years with the introduction of digital video recorders, on-demand programming and torrent feeds, so networks are scrambling to change the way they deliver content. After tiring out a team of lawyers by trying to stop video portals such as Google and You Tube from rebroadcasting its clips, NBC has decided to host the videos itself in hopes of recapturing some ad revenue and generating web traffic. You can bet other major networks will quickly follow suit.

Pacman on an iPodtinyurl.com/lel79 — It surprises me that it’s taken coders this long to port over video games for the iPod. Using the same Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator (Mame) technology that allows you to play old-school video-game consoles on your home PC, this program will soon have you gobbling pellets on your Ipod Nanos or any of the new video iPods. It’s only a matter of time before more games are adapted for this open-source project.

Connect Google Talk to AIM, MSN & Yahootinyurl.com/8l2mm — Anyone with a Gmail account has probably already noticed that Google has finally integrated the much-anticipated Google Talk feature with its web-based e-mail system. On the surface this doesn’t seem that exciting — who really needs another instant messaging program — but a simple work-around will allow you to integrate all your IM accounts into one handy system. After some easy tweaking, you’ll be chatting with all your contacts from within Google’s webmail program. This way you don’t have to get your buddies to set up an account to be able to use Google Talk.

MySpace Meet Upwww.myspace.com — If you actually want to meet some of the people you spend hours online chatting with, you might want to head down to Shannon’s Irish Pub on March 16. Although Winnipeg has a fairly active MySpace community, this is the first official meet-and-greet that has been organized.
