The Ramzi Helewa Sound Experiment

Borrowed Time(Independent)

Our Rating: star star star star star

Self-recorded between 2008 and 2010, The Ramzi Helewa Sound Experiment’s latest is simply that: a sound experiment. And it’s brilliant. Opener Part 1 meanders lightly until it’s attacked by distortion (on both vocals and guitar) with intriguing results. What follows are pure pop delights (Go South, the sing-songy Up All Night) and melancholy masters (Not a Beggar and the acoustic Sunday). Vocally, Helewa is the love child of early-’90s Wayne Coyne and late-’90s Jay Churko. All in all, this is one hell of a record.
