CD Reviews
On first impression, U.K. chamber popsmith Piers Faccini’s fourth album "My Wilderness" with its moody, shape-shifting vibe, sounds similar to most other sadcore indie rock albums being foisted upon us these days. Deeper listener exposes Faccini’s dexterous use of lyric, melody and sound to weave a magical spell. This guy is no pretender here. Each track breathes of an acoustic genesis yet the layering on of exquisite instruments like cello, violin, balafon, xylophone, dulcimer and er-hu ( a kind of Chinese violin) makes it sound at once worldly and mature. The poetic style of honey-voiced Faccini’s lyrics is attractive too, and will draw the expert listener easily into their spell. It’s an easy listen to be sure, yet this well-travelled cat gives new hope to the "guy with a guitar and a tear in his soul" a new spin.
