Holiday Rambler

There is No End to the World, and Nothing Can Shatter the Earth (Deceitful Ear Recordings)

Our Rating: star star half-star

Holiday Rambler is the wayfaring doppelganger of Hooded Fang drummer D. Alex Meeks. His first solo project as the rambler is like the Quaalude to Tosta Mista, trading spazzy surf rock for creaky lo-fi folk songs made for isolation. Singing the gospel in his apathetic baritone, Meeks has all of the truisms of that rambling backwoods sound under his belt: inward-looking lyrics, mythologized tales of family and religion, and circling acoustic work. But it all just seems like whittled down Bill Callahan or one continuous campfire jam that took an unexpected religious turn somewhere.
