CD Reviews
Stories never do dry up for Pensacola singer/songwriter Jim White, who rambles on with his sixth LP of distilled Americana drawn from the white gospel music of his coming-of-age and the true-life tragedies, triumphs and transient tales of his grown years. Shifting to the content milieu of the settled family man, White tries to put to bed the solitary drifter of early albums though his old self pops up now and again. Like a guy playing alone in his room, White’s rhapsodizing remains as thoughtful as ever. White strums through folksy hymnals of the ones "who were just born to go it alone" (The Way of Alone) and story songs of tragic figures (My Brother’s Keeper) that bristle with humanity. Elsewhere, the easy whistling and sing-along intentions of All the Things that Rocks Could Never Know can best be described as the one for the kids (my favourite song on the album, BTW).
